A Prospect of Wales

£15.00

King Penguin K43. 1st Edition, published 1948.

In 1948, Penguin published a delightful guide to Wales with a text by Gwyn Jones and illustrations by Kenneth Rowntree. Rowntree was one of the handful of painters, including Piper and Ravillious, that imaged the British landscape for post war generations. The essay by Gwyn Jones takes me back to my memories of childhood holidays in the foothills of Cader Idris where, to use Jones’ words, we were ‘in the face of nature’.

Author: Gwyn Jones
Illustrator: Kenneth Rowntree
Contents: 20 colour plates; 3 black-and-white illustrations in text
Cover Design: by Kenneth Rowntree
Pages: 32pp. + 20pp.

Condition grading: Excellent Minus. Very minor wear to spine ends and cover corners. Binding tight. The photographs form part of the description.
