The Cuckoo Clock
Puffin Story Book PS3. 1st edition, published 1941.
Once upon a time in an old town, in an old street, there stood a very old house. Such a house as you could hardly find nowadays, however you searched, for it belonged to a gone-by time - a time now quite passed away…Time indeed seemed to stand still in and all about the old house, as if it and the people who inhabited it had got so old that they could not get any older, and had outlived the possibility of change.
All good fairy stories should start with those magical words, and this charming Victorian story of a small girl and her enchanted cuckoo clock is no exception. The author, Maria Louisa Molesworth, was born in 1839 and wrote several adult novels under the pseudonym of 'Ennis Graham' before she turned to children's books - and her true vocation.
Condition grading: Good. Pencil signature and price to title page. 2cm tear to right edge of front cover. Damage to spine ends. Scuff to top right of rear cover. Light crease to bottom right corner of front cover. Light creases to left hand corners of rear cover. Bumping wear to top right corner of front cover. Small tear to bottom left corner of front cover. Binding tight. The photographs form part of the description.
